So, thank goodness for Amazon and online shopping! My kids haven’t spent more than 17 minutes in a fitting room in their entire lifetimes! However, recently, Jonah, my eleven year old needed a new dress shirt and Lexi, my four year old wanted a new dress to start school. For both, a trip to the mall and trying on clothes in the fitting room was required. Jonah was quick. He knew what he wanted and just needed to try on for size. Dress shirts and dress pants are so staticky, and these were sticking in all the wrong ways. So, thank goodness we had Static Schmatic on hand. A few spritzes on the inside of his white dress shirt helped it to relax so we could see how well it fit.
In contrast, when Lexi, Kris and I walked into Zara to begin her dress search, Lexi found a number of other items she “needed” to have for school, too. So, we had a full on fashion show in the fitting room! It was an assembly line (thank goodness Kris was there) as we pulled pieces off the hanger, Lexi put them on, danced around and posed, and then whisked them off into my mom’s lap for folding or rehanging. As you’ve experienced, no doubt, static gets intense in fitting rooms, and Lexi needed regular sprays of Static Schmatic to make sure her try-on session didn't get ruined by static cling in her clothes. Thank goodness it’s odor-free and safe on all fabrics.
Next time you’re trying on, bring Static Schmatic in your purse. It not only makes the fitting room experience 100% better, but you can actually see how well clothes fit when they’re not clinging in all the wrong places!

Here are some of the clothes we ended up getting...maybe we would have bought less if the Static Schmatic hadn’t worked so well!
Life Skill 1: Brush and Floss Daily
It’s not that hard, right? I mean, it’s really not that hard! Yet, for some reason my kids are still trying to grasp the importance of brushing every day, twice a day, and flossing at least once. So, we keep reinforcing the routine here. However, when they’re finally heading off to college let’s certainly hope the routine is well-established. Our dentist gave us these ah-maz-ing toothbrushes after our last cleanings. Seriously, you won’t want to use any other toothbrush ever again! (click photos for direct links.)
Life Skill 2: Do the Laundry...Regularly
Clean clothes, clean sheets & clean towels are essential to feeling and looking fresh and well put together. I’ll never forget my best friend from high school proudly announcing that he never washed his towel during the first semester of his freshman year at college. “Why would I? I’m clean everytime I use it!” GROSS!! Don’t be that guy. Stick to natural detergents to minimize chemicals and NEVER use dryer sheets since they’re full of hazardous chemicals. Instead, send a laundry-size bottle of Static Schmatic in their laundry basket. It’s so simple to spray Static Schmatic generously while folding clothes so they’re cling-free and ready to go when they are. My personal favorite tip is to spray Static Schmatic for Kids on sheets and clothes. It contains the most delicate hit of vanilla that reminds them of the cookies you bake at home.

Life Skill 3: Organize and stay organized
This time of year, as school quickly approaches, my husband, Matt, and I always have high hopes of getting into a better bedtime routine...before the first week.
If our past failed attempts are any prediction for this year, it won’t happen because we’ll get caught up in savoring every last moment of these cherished summer evenings. There’s nothing like the early school mornings to get us back on track, though. If your kids are like mine, they need a good incentive to hit the sack early. For us it’s a gentle spritz of Static Schmatic for Kids on their pillow cases and a great new read.
Static Schmatic for Kids leaves the most delicate scent of vanilla, which instills a cozy, relaxed feeling as they drift off into dreamland. We all recognize how powerful scents are with their ability to immediately take us back to a moment in our lives. The delicious smell of cookies is sweet yet faint and will always remind them of the sweet dreams they had under our watch and care.
The book is a new adventure they love to discover as they unwind from the day. It gives them much-needed quiet time and an incredibly healthy dose of creativity and imagination. Here are links to some of our summer favorites that span their ages, from Amazon. We hope you enjoy them as much as we did!
Just as we love the cozy feel of wearing sweaters, we love the cozy way layers let us wrap up as if we’re in a warm blanket all day long. Whether you wear a cotton t-shirt, a button down or a light sweater underneath, your finished layered look should be a comfortably flowing ensemble that flatters and hides all in one. We love long striped sleeves on your underlayer rolled up around the top layer, a crisp white t-shirt showing at the bottom of a sweater, and tucking part of the front of our top into our jeans to off-set what can become a little long in the front. Plus, it gives you a little shape that always enhances the overall look.
When layering, be sure to use pieces that don’t get caught on each other. Some cottons will stick to each other, which ends up looking disheveled instead of purposeful. You also want to be careful as nylon and polyester can create static problems, which lead to unflattering cling in all the wrong places. Of course, we recommend using Static Schmatic in between each layer. Spray it on the inside of fabrics before you put them on. Like lipstick, you may need to reapply during your day so, again, be sure to spray in between layers and on the inside of your fabrics. Static Schmatic is safe on delicate skin and fabrics, and it won’t leave any build-up or residue on your pieces.

1. Oversize throw pillows in soft fabrics are one of my favorite accessories in my family room all winter long. You can change the entire look of a room by changing the pillows. I recently swapped out my summer pillows for my favorite oversized plaid pillows in buffalo check and the traditional red plaid. These pillows don’t look stuffy or unapproachable at all. They’re made from a soft wool, and they are the epitome of cozy! Grab some for your sofa today! Some of my favorites are linked here:
2. A room can come alive with warmth from the subtle light of a lamp, which is why I love lamps and can’t get enough of them throughout my house. Whether I’m curled up, drinking ginger tea while watching my favorite Hallmark Channel movies or cuddling with my grandkids while watching a family movie, I love the soft, warm light that emanates from a lamp. Be sure to use the soft white lights as the others can be too harsh. Some of my favorites are linked here:
3. How can we not mention a throw? Look for something that differs but compliments the other colors and patterns you have going on. What does that mean? If you have a lot of movement in your fabrics on your sofa or bed, choose a throw in a solid color. If you have a lot of basics, select a throw with color and pattern to add vibrance. In any case, you’ll never regret being able to wrap something around you when you sit down to chat, watch or surf your social feed. Here are some of my favorites:
Once you’ve found your favorite pieces, take the time to enjoy your newly updated room with a hot tea in hand, next to a warm, crackling fire.
]]>Static Schmatic® was created by me, Whitney, and my mom, Kris, while we were living in the picturesque—but static-prone—mountains of Aspen, Colorado.
It was a particularly cold winter and we were entangled with static—on our hair, clothes, and kids. There weren't any products that we felt comfortable spraying on ourselves—let alone on the children—so we decided to make our own!
